Take to The Turquoise Coast this Autumn
There's still time to grab an autumn bargain to Turkey's turquoise coast, one of the most popular holiday destinations for UK travellers this summer. With long, sunny days stretching right into October, it's the perfect place to go for an affordable sunshine getaway.
There are flights to Dalaman, the Mugla region's airport from most UK departure airports, meaning holidaymakers won't have to travel too far before boarding the plane to the sun.
Turquoise Coast
The turquoise coast is diverse, with resorts and attractions to suit every taste. Partygoers love Marmaris, with its harbour and late night bars and those looking for somewhere a little more sedate head to Icmeler, just along the prom. Olu Deniz
The most photographed beach in Turkey is at Olu Deniz (which translates as 'Dead Sea.' ) This stunning salt water lagoon is home to the endangered loggerhead turtle. Surrounded by mountains, Olu Deniz is a great place to try out paragliding, and daredevils can often be seen gliding on to the beautiful beach. Brilliant boat trips depart Olu Deniz every day, with barbecues , entertainment and even water slides on board! In the mountains surrounding Olu Deniz, those looking for a cooler retreat will love Hisaronu. This busy resort has it all: markets selling cheap designer goods, nightclubs, late bars and fairground rides - all within a 20 minute dolmus ride of Olu Deniz. The dolmus is the local, regular minibus service - a cheap and reliable way of getting around. Still in the mountains but more peaceful than Hisaronu is the sleepy resort of Ovacik, where villagers can still be seen playing backgammon outside their cottages and the sunsets are sublime. Travellers seeking a true mountain getaway should consider renting a private villa and should also explore Kayakoy, an abandoned Greek village clinging to the hillside. Olu Deniz is also a great place for hikers to begin a trek along the breathtaking Lycian Way.
Fethiye, between Dalaman and Olu Deniz
Fethiye is a busy town between Dalaman and Oludeniz. Browse the beautiful bazaar and pick up bargain rugs, leather goods and ceramics. Nearby Calis Beach is a popular place to stay, with its clean shoreline, selection of good hotels and watersports, including as kite surfing. Close to Dalaman airport is the resort of Sarigerme, with its spotless beaches and clutch of luxury all-inclusive hotels, including the newly-opened Hilton Dalaman.
