Explaining The Demand For Turquoise Jewelry
While there can be little doubt that physical beauty has captivated jewelry fans, it should also be recognized that the popularity of turquoise is also because of the spiritual and metaphysical properties attributed to it. So while you may have purchased your Sterling Silver Turquoise pendant because you love the bluish green color of the stone, there are others, and there have been others who owned turquoise for more spiritual reasons. Cultures of old from Egypt, Asia, and the Americas have long since associated this mineral with their respective gods and goddesses. The Egyptians even named the stone after their word for "delight". And, the Egyptian goddess Hathor who is believed to represent the positive feelings and actions such as love, marriage, joy and women has also been referred to in ancient texts as the Lady of Turquoise. Egyptians also believed that turquoise was tied to the Sun God Ra. Because of these lofty beliefs, royals were often buried with objects made of turquoise so that this stone could continue to help and protect them in the afterlife. American Indians also believed that this gem united the heavens and earth, and helped bring together to positive aspects of male and the female energies. Many cultures including the Tibetans believed that this is a stone of self-realization and introspection. It is said to promote innovation, creativity, and clarity of thought.
There are also those who believe that turquoise has physical benefits as well. It is believed to help with the development and healing of muscle tissue, lessening stress, providing relief from headaches and other ailments. As a protective stone, some believe that turquoise strengthens the immune system of the body, promotes physical strength, and is good for the circulatory, pulmonary, and respiratory system systems. At one point, there were those who would crush the stone to a fine powder, dissolve it in water, and drink the solution to help with stomach and gout problems. There is little medical evidence to promote that particular treatment.
For the less spiritual amongst us, turquoise is popular because of its beautiful color and appearance. The blue color is bright and yet sober. The stone can be combined with other materials to create new and different designs in jewelry. The addition of turquoise beads to a cultured Pearl Necklace gives an age-old classic a new look. Turquoise jewelry compliments casual as well as formal ensembles. This stone is best framed in sterling silver settings. The warm bright color of the silver and the sky blue color of turquoise compliment each other perfectly.
